/usr/local/bin/ffmpeg: No such file or directory

This article discuss the message "/usr/local/bin/ffmpeg: No such file or directory" when received during video conversions in hwdVideoShare. FFMPEG is a computer program that can record, convert and stream digital audio and video in numerous formats. It is used by hwdVideoShare to convert uploaded videos and take thumbnail images of the video for display.

What does this message mean?

This message means that hwdVideoShare can not find FFMPEG. It is looking on your server at /usr/local/bin/ffmpeg, but FFMPEG does not exist. Therefore, the FFMPEG software can not be executed and the video conversion has failed.

Do you have FFMPEG installed?

Does your server have FFMPEG installed? If you are not sure, then ask your host. They will be able to tell you.

The Solutions

I don't have FFMPEG installed and it is not possible for me to install it

  • Go to the General Settings of hwdVideoShare
  • Under the Setup tab, switch the setting for Required Software Installed? to No.
  • Save the settings

I don't have FFMPEG installed but it is possible for me to install it

  • Install FFMPEG
  • Check for the correct path to FFMPEG
  • Go to the Server Settings of hwdVideoShare
  • Input the correct path to FFMPEG
  • Save the settings
  • Attempt the conversion again

I already have FFMPEG installed

  • Check for the correct path to FFMPEG
  • Go to the Server Settings of hwdVideoShare
  • Input the correct path to FFMPEG
  • Save the settings
  • Attempt the conversion again
