Advanced Perl Upload Method

This article discusses the Advanced Perl Upload Method that is available in hwdVideoShare as a method to upload video files.

What software does it use?

The Advanced Flash Upload Method uses Uber Uploader to process the uploads using a powerful Perl script, allowing the display of a progress bar and percentage.

How do I enable it?

  • Log into the Joomla Administrator and go to the hwdVideoShare General Settings.
  • Click on the 'Uploads' tab and change the upload method to Perl.

How do I use it?

Once the General Settings have been updated to enable the Perl Upload method the hwdVideoShare will automatically use this method when a user uploads a video.

Once the user has completed the video details such as title and description they will be redirected to the upload page that displays the Perl upload tool. The tool allows you to select a video file from your computer. It will tell you if your file is suitable to upload and display a progress bar to inform you how much of the file has been uploaded.

What are the benefits of using this upload method?

  • Large video file uploads
  • Real-time progress bar displaying the percentage uploaded is displayed to the user

What are the common problems?

Due to the nature of the Perl script, webmaster's have experienced a number of different errors whilst using this upload feature.
