Upgrading the hwdPhotoShare Component

Please visit the component upgrade page for instructions on upgrading the component.

What settings/files are kept when I upgrade?

  • Your General Settings will be kept
  • Your photo files will be kept
  • Your photo information will be kept
  • Your plugins will be kept

What settings/files are lost when I upgrade?

  • The main component directories will be over-written:
/path/to/joomla/administrator/components/com_hwdphotoshare/
/path/to/joomla/components/com_hwdphotoshare/
  • Therefore, any modifications to the component source code will be lost. Please keep a record of any changes you make so you can apply them again when you upgrade.
  • Any modifications to the default template code will also be lost. The default template is always automaitcally updated when you update the component.

Module and Plugin Compatibility

hwdPhotoShare has an internal system to check module and plugin compatibility. If you try to use incompatible software you will see a warning message explaining the incompatibility. This compatibility system has been introduced to help users. It exists to inform you about incompatible software. If you see messages about incompatible modules or plugins then you simply need to upgrade the specified software to the current version.

However, it is best practise to upgrade all hwdPhotoShare software at once, this includes the component, module, plugins and templates. This way can always be confident you are up-to-date.

How to I upgrade my hwdPhotoShare modules and plugins?

To upgrade all your extra software you need to visit the Joomla installation utility and re-install the modules and plugins.

  • Use the installation files from the hwdMediaShare package to install the modules and plugins.
  • You don't need to uninstall the previous versions. Install over the top and hwdPhotoShare will update the necessary files.

To upgrade other plugins, such as the Community Builder, xMap and sh404sef plugins, you should follow the installation instructions for those systems.
